Think of the future and u'll picture a scene with flying cars and jetpack powered humans flying like birds! As Always, Smithsonian Magazine’s “Future is Here” festival in Washington lived up to its event name over the weekend when a human pilot flew a real, fully-functional jetpack around the interior area of the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center.
The best of the lot was that a human pilot flew a real jetpack for 20 glorious seconds in front of a packed crowd on Saturday, also with a controlled landing.
The company officials said the jetpack was fueled by hydrogen peroxide and nitrogen gas, which react in the presence of a silver catalyst to produce jets of compressed steam that provide the necessary thrust.
The pilot controls the device via two handles, one of which regulates power while the other controls roll, pitch and yaw. Though the cost of development reportedly falls somewhere between $100,000 to $150,000, the device isn’t for sale yet.
Seems the future is near? I think so, jetpacks jetpacks everywhere!
