XiaoMi phones have been hot sellers in China and in South East Asia, especially India lately. Most of it are sold out within seconds! The heavy sales is largely due to it’s low price and better specifications than the competitors, but with one sacrifice...Your Privacy!
The Xiaomi RedMi Note was caught red-handed sending private user info to a Chinese server.
Lately, a Taiwanese internet media has uncovered that the RedMi Note is actually sending data back to a server hosted in China behind the scenes.
The RedMi Note has been connecting to an IP address located in China and transferring data back to the server when it's operating in Wi-Fi mode, while on 3G, it's just a handshake (low data transmission)
The phone seems to be sending pictures from MEDIA STORAGE and even SMS and messages to the Chinese servers.
What surprises the tester is that even if you root the phone and flash it with another firmware, the background transmission continues. It seems that the process is hard coded into the phone.
It looks like XiaoMi is ‘helping’ users to automatically make a backup of your data on their servers without explicit permission from the user lol, Though their micloud service was never turned on during the test.
Not sure if it's the same case with Xiaomi's other phones, but it's a alarming news afterall and we expect an explanation from the Company.
